I wrote this yesterday or so in a digital art group as my first (maybe 2nd?) post.
With great response 🥰
An important HD detail to add is that Morgan & Khris both have 19/49 defined too (as I do).
“Sensitive to the needs of the tribe”
You’ll understand why I point to that below.
Now for the rest of the story … :)
Ooh and the butterfly animation works here! (it didn’t on FB).
Okay so I was completely unfamiliar with Procreate and didn’t have an iPad …
… but went ahead and bought the seamless [Procreate files] course earlier in the Fall anyway.
I also have access to one of the ‘big name’ surface pattern design programs - it’s been two years now I think (or maybe just one, time runs together 😂🤷🏻♀️) but anyway, I bought this course and I finally finally understood that it was what I wanted to do.
Thanks in no small part I think to the way Brooke teaches - inch by inch, click by click - practical guidance is what I needed, not to wade through a bunch of fanfare, highly produced videos and launch emotions.
Don’t get me wrong, I find value in that too, it’s just not what ultimately got me moving.
So I peeked inside the course to begin to grok the details of what goes into making these endless patterns - but still didn’t have an iPad.
And tbh, trying to figure out which older model I wanted had me ‘stuck’ again (the $2300 or whatever one I thought I really wanted was gonna be a stretch 🤓 … especially for something I had yet to tinker with really.)
Well, I must’ve been yacking about it enough. Trying to get my adult daughters to lend me theirs (they were NOT budging lol, didn’t wanna let theirs out of their sight - it was confusing 🫤 and I was a little pissed tbh - I can say I understand why now 😅)
On Saturday, my younger daughter texts “we’re coming over” … they live an hour away so this short notice thing, it’s unusual.
I say “you mean now? Okay 🤷🏻♀️” - lol they were already partway here when she messaged.
🥺🥺🥺 they brought me an iPad!! 🥺🥺🥺
It’s one that, I think because I’d been so pesky and vocal about it - she knew to raise her hand when it crossed her path. Someone at her work was upgrading or something and it became ‘obsolete’ to them.
So this backwards way of approaching learning this “even though I wasn’t equipped with the tools - yet” has worked a treat. And the very first thing recommended in the course is a beginner Procreate tutorial series … which I needed because if I told you I knew squat about the program, it’d be an understatement.
I just had this incredible pull towards it.
This picture is a screenshot of the first 3 of 4 tutorials (the results) … the picture on the far right is were I started … 2 days ago 😮
The last tutorial was for making the butterfly ( which feels like a distraction away from pattern design but is kinda cool too)
I am so excited to now go dive into the course proper 🤩
Thank you all for being part of this group - I think this also played an important part. Seeing everyone who’s contributed work and even questions has helped me breakthrough what was a HUGE hurdle of some kind.
Keep dreaming and creating and telling the people around you who support your creativity what interests you … you just never know what can happen next 🙂❤️
(and now that I’m literally sleeping with this new tech lol … so totally forgive my girls hahahaha 😂).
