My city is on fire…
Washington state has four seasons; winter, road construction, wildfire and rain.
It’s actually been ablaze since June (really low snowfall this winter resulted in a very early fire season this summer)
And last week we got a massive red flag warning Friday evening for Saturday. First in our states history apparently; high and dangerous fire conditions. Washington requested help from literally everybody as far as Florida to prepare. ( Plus our northern forests have been raging fire for weeks now. )
So what happens? Fire of course. Three to be exact in the Spokane area.
The one closest to me appears to be the best contained; that is forward progression has been stopped (hallelujah to that)
West Spokane is ablaze. A lot of my trails I discovered when I started my experiment are burned. Anybody whose watched the news I’m sure has heard of the 600+ structures lost, 60,000 people currently displaced due to evacuation orders.
The fire moved so fucking quick. It was started southwest of Spokane, raged northeast and jumped the river in a matter of hours. In under three it grew to 1,500 acres and into the city on Saturday.
This week is weird. I’m getting up and going about my day to day; which has also rapidly changed in the last month. My 100 year old emo projector (my bosses mom) passed away July 10th so my entire work has changed. Went from sandwich maker caregiver to sandwich maker farmer in a matter of days.
So here I am; amongst this collective energy this week just doing the normal. Make sandwiches during the day and hoeing at night (for minimal hours right now cause of the smoke!)
It’s this really interesting experience. Everybody is weird to begin with but right now it’s a heavy energy like the smoke that lay thick on Spokane.
I’ve become highly attuned to the city life. Being an open sacral I can just about taste the quality of the city’s life force normally (more often than not that distorted fucked up energy drives me batty) and currently being so connected and plugged into the collective experience we are enduring as a community it has me more emotional than not. Every person I encounter this week I approach with more kindness, tenderness, sweetness. The response is a beautiful thing we are receiving; and even our neighbors up north who have been battling fires all summer are getting recognition.
It’s just the movie this week; wanted to share 🥰
Pic from my Idaho trail this morning. It actually smells like trees out here and isn’t AS Smokey!
