Have plans for Thanksgiving? (US peeps)
It turns out, Thanksgiving is tomorrow šš
I kinda was in the loop thanks to Gabrielās turkey cookie creations. But not really lol.
Snuck right up on me :)
Then last night, as John and I were on our way back from Lowes (we were chasing the outlet for the stove thatās finally IN the kitchen), we started getting a clue that Thanksgiving was only 2 days away, which lead to talking about a big pot of mashed potatoes.
We both have undefined heads ⦠conversation do wander š
(It was spurred on by a post or meme or something that weād both seen earlier from Aleda about epic mashed potatoes or something ⦠wonder if I can find it again š¤ ⦠ha! She had it to send over - took 30 seconds, itās below)
Anyway, the point is, the girls are busy (Aleda and Morgan - and partners - have Thanksgiving commitment conflicts most years) and Zane doesnāt really really like to go out amongstāem to go be in a group setting (so he doesnāt and no one tries to make him of course).
And most years since we moved to Florida (16 years ago), my Stepmother has taken charge of the meal planning and executing ⦠and it was easy to let her, especially when the kids were younger.
But we hadnāt heard from her and it wouldāve been just me and John ⦠then we got to dreaming about this big pot of mashed potatoes being the focus of our day on the day āŗļø
I LOVE potatoes.
So I said, āWell, Iām not sure how many potatoes we have, weād better get some on the way home.ā
We stop at the grocery store. And I hop out to grab this bag of potatoes.
Itās so busy that the fact that itās Tuesday before Thanksgiving Thursday really comes into full clarity and my shopping brain expands to hmm š¤, weāre about to have an actual full-size oven ā¦
(this endless-feeling kitchen construction project began when I took out the worn out wall oven and range top that I can only imagine were original to the [1960ās era] house - I think itās been two years since I did that)
⦠because remember, Johnās about to install the plug for the stove thatās been waiting in the Livingroom for quite awhile ⦠and THAT means I can actually shop for things that can be cooked in it!
Well, not just going in for potatoes and then leaving had a funny side effect.
I didnāt over shop (okay I did buy 3 pies lol), but as I was considering what sort of (smallish) meat might pair well with our epic potatoes, I found myself looking at the frozen ducks ā¦
And while I was seeing how I felt about that ⦠who should come up behind me?
My stepmother.
Who I rarely or never bump into.
With an invitation to Thanksgiving š¤¦š»āāļøš
I quickly put down the duck - almost like Iād been caught doing something I shouldnāt have been lol š
Navigated that conversation with āI donāt really know what weāre doing tbhā and āthe kids all have different plansā etcā¦
She seems pretty relaxed about it either way and says, āWell, itāll be around 5pm (at my stepbrotherās house) if you wanna come.ā
Who knows, we may still pop in (or I might if my Dad plans to, for instance - he also is a Projector and prefers short cameo appearances) ⦠can leave that to Inner Authority and no promises.
But also, I did circle back and grab that duck Iād just about settled on before I was ācaught red handedā with it š
Have no idea how to cook duck ššš
All I know is I have an oven to play with (he got it plugged in last night - whoop whoop! šš¼) and a duck to do it with.
And so life unfolds.
